Glenn Day, has been crowned one of the UK’s best builders in NHBC’s Pride in the Job Awards 2017 for the second year in a row. Glenn who is project manager at Barratt Homes’ Martello Lakes development on Dymchurch Road, was recognised for his commitment to building homes of outstanding quality. This follows Glenn’s previous success, having picked up NHBC’s prestigious Seal of Excellence Award last year and seven Pride in the Job Quality Awards.

The first round of winning site managers were announced, with Glenn recognised as one of the best 450 in the UK. Now in its 37th year, Pride in the Job, organised by NHBC, the UK’s leading new home warranty insurance provider, is the most highly regarded competition in the house-building industry dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the highest standards in house building. Glenn, who has worked in the construction industry for 32 years, was assessed across 44 areas of site management, including technical knowledge, consistency in the build process and the quality controls in place.

More than 16,000 site managers competed for the awards, making this year’s Quality Award winners the best in their profession. Glenn will now go on to compete for his second Seal of Excellence and Regional Award, with the Supreme Award Winners announced at a gala ceremony in January 2018.

Glenn says: “It’s a dream come true to be crowned as one of the best builders in the UK again and to have the opportunity to retain my Seal of Excellence title. At each stage of the build at Martello Lakes we strive to ensure that everything we do is 100%. As part of the awards process we have been carefully monitored by the NHBC and so this recognition not only reflects on the team, but on the homes we are building.”

Commenting on the Awards, Neil Jefferson, NHBC Managing Director said: “Congratulations to all the 2017 Quality Award winners – the strength of this year’s entries coupled with the judges’ long and hard deliberations over selecting around 450 winners from more than 16,000 site managers should give great pride to them all and their teams.

Neil continues: “Every year, the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards give us the chance to celebrate the efforts site managers go to promoting continuous improvement in the quality of new homes, year on year, for homeowners and their families to enjoy.”

Glenn is extremely proud of his work and team and considers the award to be a reflection on the high quality work that is going into the delivery of the 1,050 new homes at Martello Lakes.

Mark Bailey, Managing Director for Barratt Kent says: “To win a Seal of Excellence last year was a fantastic achievement, but to be in with a chance of retaining it for the second year in a row, is an incredible feat. Glenn and his team should be extremely proud of the outstanding work they undertake at Martello Lakes, and I am delighted this is being recognised at a national level. It is work like this that helps ensure Barratt continues to be a 5-star rated housebuilder.”

Martello Lakes is a popular new development by Barratt Homes of two, three, four and five-bedroom family homes which is delivering 190 homes in its initial phase. To date, the development is appealing to families who are set to benefit from its offering of open space, coastal and lakeside location and provision for water sport activities.
