A housebuilder has donated £1,600 to a children’s hospice charity in Kent from the sale of some of its show home furniture.
Vistry Kent has given the money to Demelza Hospice Care for Children after auctioning off the furniture from two show homes at its Bovis Homes’ Rosemead Place development in Horam to staff members.
Vistry Kent is part of Vistry Group, which includes Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Vistry Partnerships.
Demelza Hospice Care for Children provides specialist care and support for babies, children and young people with serious or terminal conditions and their families in Kent, East Sussex and south-east London.
The charity, which helps over 600 children every year, has hospices in Sittingbourne in Kent, and Eltham in south-east London, and provides a community hospice at home service from its base in St Leonards, East Sussex.
Petra Bones, Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager at Demelza, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive another donation from Vistry. The support of companies like Vistry is invaluable, and without it, we wouldn’t be able to provide the vital care and support we do.
“The £1,600 from Vistry could fund the cost of a day of care at our East Sussex hospice plus five hours of art or music therapy. In short, this money will allow us to reach out to help children with serious and terminal conditions and their families, at perhaps the most challenging period of their lives.”
Millie Groves, marketing manager for Vistry Kent, said: “Demelza does an incredible amount of vital work to support and help families going through the worst times in their lives. Our regional office is in West Malling and Demelza is special to us as we see the organisation as a local charity that makes a huge difference in our community.
“In March this year, we donated more than £5,000 to Demelza after selling furniture from three show homes at locations in Kent. A group of employees from our head office also helped out by spending a day volunteering at the charity’s retail distribution warehouse in Maidstone. We want to support Demelza in any way we can to help them carry on their amazing work.”
