Some 2,000 people headed to Manston Airport for its annual Holiday Show, which marked exactly one month before the first KLM passenger flight takes off on 2 April.
Operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, the twice daily flights to Schiphol Airport will connect passengers to 190 destinations worldwide.
Charles Buchanan, Chief Executive of Manston Airport, said:
“We were absolutely delighted with the turnout for what is always a fun family event. This year was better than ever with a definite buzz about the terminal. Local people are excited about the fact that Manston, with their support, can become a real success story.”
Onsite travel agent Sunpex Travel took bookings for both KLM flights and Newmarket Holidays, which offers charter services from Manston to Italy, Austria and Portugal.
There was plenty of entertainment available for all ages with the Heart Angels, vintage cars and local craft stalls all present. Children were kept busy with a fire engine to explore, a balloon modeller, face painter and colouring competitions.
Local businesses on show included TG Aviation, Visit Thanet, Quex Park, Holiday Inn, Leaf Hotels, Dover Transport Museum, East Kent College and The Thanet Air Show, which will take place at Manston in June.
Charles Buchanan added:
“We had people flooding into the airport all day – even up to 10 minutes before the show ended. There was a genuine enthusiasm and air of support throughout the day and now we have a favour to ask everyone who came along.
“We are doing all we can to promote the new KLM flights but we need the public’s help. Please tell your friends and family how easy it is to get to Manston, how close you can park to the terminal and most importantly, how you will soon be able to reach the whole of the world from your local airport. With your help, we can really put Manston on the map.”
