Bellway Names New Developments At Kings Hill In Tribute to RAF West Malling

Bellway has chosen Aviation Park as the overarching name for a collection of new housing developments in Kent, in tribute to the former RAF base upon which they are being built.

The housebuilder is now delivering homes at five sites within Kings Hill, which has transformed the former home of RAF West Malling. Construction is already well progressed on 52 new homes at Liberty Quarter, off Park Drive.

The names of four new developments pay homage to aircraft manufacturers or planes involved in the Second World War or Cold War, in tribute to RAF West Malling, which played a vital role in both conflicts.

Bellway Kent is building 210 new homes at DeHavilland Place, off Jubilee Way, another 140 properties at Blenheim Green, off Park Drive, 70 homes at Westland Place, off Abbey Wood Road, and 70 properties at Gloster Chase, off Kings Hill Avenue.

A fifth Bellway development, Liberty Quarter, was also named to reflect the importance of the RAF base.

Mark Harrop, Sales Director at Bellway Kent, said: “RAF West Malling played a central role in the defence of our country during its battle against Germany in the Second World War. Fighter planes took off from there to engage the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain in 1940 and in 1944 aircraft based at the station were scrambled to intercept and shoot down the dreaded ‘doodlebug’ flying bombs that were launched from the Dutch and French coasts and aimed at London. The airfield was also an important base during the Cold War.

“We have therefore decided to call our wider scheme at Kings Hill Aviation Park and to name our new developments here in tribute to the incredible history of RAF West Malling and as an appreciation of all the brave servicemen and women stationed here who did so much for their country.”

RAF West Malling closed as an operational air station in the 1960s. Aviation Park forms the latest phase of Bellway’s involvement in the wider Kings Hill project, where more than 3,500 homes have been built or planned since work began in 1990, along with a million square feet of commercial floor space, three new schools and 23 shops.

Mark said: “At Liberty Quarter, the most advanced of our sites within Aviation Park, we have already handed over the keys to buyers and these new residents are starting to create a new neighbourhood on the site. There are new homes available to reserve there and also a selection of properties available to buy at Blenheim Green, with DeHavilland Place due to launch soon.

“Across our five developments we are delivering hundreds of homes to complete this landmark regeneration project.

“We have launched a new dedicated sales arena, located off Park Drive, which is now a central hub from which our sales team will provide information about all the new homes across Aviation Park.  To make life easier for our customers we are also going to base an electric car here to take potential purchasers to our sites across the wider development.”

CASE STUDY

Ellan Iaquaniello has moved to Liberty Quarter with her 17-year-old daughter Ava after separating from her husband. She said: “I saw this as a chance to make a fresh start. The old house was right on a busy main road and there was a constant hum of traffic and it was not a good view. Now our new home looks out over the local park, which is lovely and so calming.”

The amenities at Kings Hill appealed to Ellan and Ava. Ellan said: “Where I used to live, it was a 10-minute drive to the gym but now I can jog there. Now, I just run for fun and I like being able to run to the gym six times a week which acts as a lovely gentle warm-up before my cardio session or class.

“Ava loves her new bedroom and we both love our gorgeous new home. Even Patch, our cat, is happy as he likes nothing better than curling up on the soft, deep carpet and purring away to his heart’s content.”

There’s currently a choice of three and four-bedroom new homes available to reserve at Liberty Quarter, with prices starting at £429,995. For more information call the sales team on 01732 608079 or visit https://www.bellway.co.uk/new-homes/kent/liberty-quarter.

At Blenheim Green, there’s a selection of three, four and five-bedroom properties for sale, with prices from £519,995. Further details are available from the sales office on 01732 608587 or at https://www.bellway.co.uk/new-homes/kent/blenheim-green.
