Kent Science Park (KSP) has installed four electric car-charging points for electric or hybrid vehicles. The charging posts, which can charge two vehicles each, are located in two designated parking bays on the Park and can be used by tenants, their guests and visitors. The charging points use type 2 sockets and have a 7kw power supply. Depending on the type of car, it can take between three hours and one day for a vehicle to be fully charged.
The EV (electric vehicle) charging points were installed in response to the growing number of tenants either with an electric vehicle or thinking about purchasing one. Kent Science Park is keen for its tenants to be in a position where they can consider changing to more environmentally-friendly modes of transport without there being any barriers to the transition. As such, the charging points rid them of any worry that the vehicles could run out of charge during the working day, and save them the hassle of having to charge their car at home.
Stephen Moore, Facilities Manager at Kent Science Park, commented on the reasons behind having the charging points installed, “We are constantly looking at ways in which we can add value for KSP tenants and promote a sustainable future at the same time. The EV points are a key part of this. Not only will they make charging easier for those who already own an electric vehicle, but they will also hopefully encourage other tenants to purchase one. Most of our tenants live within 20 miles of the site, so an electric vehicle would suit this sort of journey perfectly.”
He added, “We want to reduce Kent Science Park’s impact on the environment as much as possible, and encouraging the purchase of electric vehicles is a good way to do this. Earlier this year, we were awarded an ISO14001 environmental accreditation to mark our continuing commitment to environmental sustainability and the charging points are testimony to this.”
The electric car-charging points are currently being trialled free of charge, with the option to install more dependent on demand. For more information on usage, please contact Kent Science Park on 01795 411500.
