Visitors to the Winterdale Cheesemakers barn in Wrotham this Christmas can taste both gold and silver award-winning cheeses as won at the World Cheese Awards this year.
Owner and cheesemaker at Winterdale Cheesemakers, Robin Betts is delighted with the results, “our cheeses have been judged against 2,781 others, from 30 countries and great cheese producing nations such as France, Italy and Germany and we are absolutely over the moon to have been awarded two gold and two silver awards at the World Cheese Awards 2012. It is a huge honour.” Says Betts, a local family man.
Winterdale Cheesemakers has been producing its Shaw and Aged Shaw cheddars for the last six years at the cheesemakers barn in Wrotham, Kent. World Cheese gold awards were presented to the Winterdale Shaw in the categories of Hard cheese (produced on farm or dairy with a total output not exceeding a weekly average of 2t) and Specialist Cheesemakers Association. Silver medals were awarded for Winterdale’s Oak Smoked cheese in the Smoked hard cheese category and a silver for the Shaw Aged in the category of Hard cheese (produced on farm or dairy with a total output not exceeding a weekly average of 2t).
“We have made a commitment to the environment and to the future and we hope you will keep an eye on Winterdale Cheesemakers in the next few months, we expect a huge, category changing breakthrough to be announced soon.” Says Betts .
