kent-science-resource-centreThe Kent Science Resource Centre (KSRC), based on Kent Science Park, is hosting an open day on Saturday 5th October for students who might be considering undertaking an FdSc and BSc (hons) degree in Life Science Laboratory Technology.

All students and their parents are invited to attend the open day, which runs between 14:00 and 17:00. In this time, there will be an opportunity to look around the centre, discuss the course and its contents with the lecturers and see demonstrations of course experiments. Teachers are also welcome to attend to discuss the activities that KSRC can offer for school visits.

Julie Coleman, Centre Manager at the KSRC, discussed what she sees as the main benefits of the course, “First and foremost, the course is approximately one third cheaper than a standard University degree and this means that there are huge financial savings to be had. There is also greater flexibility as students can opt to undertake the full-time course over two years, or a part-time course, which will take three and a half. We have excellent facilities here at the KSRC, including industry standard laboratories and equipment, so it really is a great place to learn.”

She added, “The course is very hands on and there is an opportunity to undertake a work placement, which we will arrange. Students leave the course having gained real, valuable skills that they can apply in their future careers. Thus far, 100% of students who were on the course previously are now employed, and we intend this to be the case year in year out.”

kent-science-parkJames Speck, Site Director at Kent Science Park, commented, “I hope that budding science students take this opportunity to attend the open day and get a feel for what it’s all about. Financially, this is an excellent option for obtaining degree level education, and one that leads to real employment. In being based on the Park, the KSRC is in a superb location for students to surround themselves with the cutting edge, innovative science that they will be involved with one day themselves.”
