LONDON HR DIRECTOR COMES TO KENT

Helpful-HR-TUNBRIDGE-WELLSAn HR specialist with more than 20 years’ experience in the capital has launched a consultancy to help small businesses to grow.

Roz Chown, owner of human resources consultancy Helpful HR, which is based in Tunbridge Wells, will work with SMEs across the south east of England. Helpful HR supports business owners with day-to-day staff management issues, providing expertise around recruitment, retention and performance management.

Roz said: “My dream for some time has been to set up my own consultancy. I love working with businesses and their leadership teams to help them achieve success through their people. By engaging an HR consultant, those SMEs who don’t have an in-house HR function can make sure they have the benefits of a virtual HR Director, as and when they need.

“As employee engagement is becoming increasingly critical to business success, I felt this was a good time to establish my own consultancy, as well as improving own my work life balance. The name of my consultancy explains my approach – and it really does what it says on the tin!”

Prior to establishing Helpful HR, Roz cut her teeth with Tui before joining consumer publishing giant Time Inc. UK as a Business Partner for iconic brands including NME, Loaded, Country Life, Marie Claire, TV Times and Horse & Hound. Moving to the global PR and Communications agency NATIONAL Public Relations as HR Director for Europe, Roz supported a headcount growth of over 30% and helped the company achieve 7th place in the medium category of UK’s Best Workplaces 2017.

Helpful HR has already provided consultancy services to local design agency Yoyo and property software developers 10ninety.

Jenny Kitchen, Managing Director at Yoyo Design, said: “Roz has been a fantastic support for Yoyo. Over the last 4 months, we have overhauled our HR department and she has been absolutely key to this whole project. As an MD, it’s great to have a Roz in your camp as she’s smart, efficient and provides a huge amount of HR experience, which is invaluable when managing large teams.”

Roz prides herself on her ability to get ‘under the skin’ of a business, both in terms of the business model and the culture, which she feels is key to providing the right support and advice.

Roz continued: “I’ve had an amazing and varied career and have learned so much working in London for 20 years. I’ve worked for businesses going through difficult times, as well as growing organisations. But no matter what the industry, there’s one common thread; people are at the heart of every business. They are fantastic, creative, and unique but they are also unpredictable, so when you work in HR, you can guarantee a life of variety.”
